Courage- Upham showed a lot of courage at the end when we he shot the man that killed Wade and Mellish. He was scared the whole time to shoot anyone. He stepped up in the end.

Manhood- Everyone in Millers crew was very brave because they went out on a limb to try and save Private Ryan. Even though they lose a few men in the process.

Self-preservation- Upham was always worried about his own health and not fighting as a team.

Disregard for Human Life- If you are going to be successful in the war you have to have a disregard for human life when you have to just go and kill people.

Noise and Silence- It is super loud and noisey when they are fighting. It is quiet when there is no fighting.

Light and Dark- When something bad is going to happen the lights get darker and everything gets scary and when it is pitch black they are sleeping. When it is light they are moving.

Clean and Dirty- Everyone looks clean and good, but when they get done with a battle they are all bloody and dirty.

Youth and Maturity- You could see how every one grew up in the end and became strong.

The Dead Soldier- A lot of men died in this war. It was very bloody and nasty war.

The Flag- Reprensents what the war is all about and shows the country is what everyone is fighting for.
